Instrumental Music at Dan McCarty Middle School
Beginning Band- Eagle Band
Beginning Band is the first full year of music instruction on their instruments. Ownership or rental of instruments is encouraged. This beginning band class develops skills on a variety of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Emphasis is given to providing a strong fundamental approach to their instrument. Rehearsal from the required Music Text will be accomplished daily, as well as developmental music theory. Performance outside of normal school hours are required as part of this course.
Intermediate Band- Golden Eagle Band
This band is designed to offer students intermediate-level instruction in band performance skills in preparation for concerts and competitions with emphasis on music theory, interpretation, and improved technical proficiency.
Advanced Band- Eagle Honors Band
This advanced-level band class emphasizes on the development of full-band performance skills in preparation for concerts and competitions. The elements of more complex music theory and interpretation are addressed and a higher level of technical playing proficiency is developed.
Percussion Ensemble
The percussion ensemble is designed to help percussion students further their musical skills. Students will rehearse and perform with others. They will be taught music reading skills, musicality, music terminology, music history, and music theory. They will work on music to be performed with the band, as a percussion ensemble and as a drumline.
