Flute

The flute is a woodwind instrument that produces it's tone by blowing air across the lip plate. It is composed of three parts: The head joint, the body and the foot. The oldest flutes found, are thousands of years old and made of bones.Later on flutes were made of wood or bamboo. From the 16th century on the flute developed into the modern flute which we know nowadays. Clarinet

The clarinet is a member of the woodwind family that uses a reed (cane) that vibrates to produce a tone. The clarinet has a mouthpiece, barrel, an upper joint, a lower joint and has a piece called a bell on the bottom of the clarinet. Johann Christoph Denner is recognized as the inventor of the clarinet, during the late 1600s. Saxophone

The history of the saxophone can be traced back over 150 years. The saxophone is one of the newer instruments in the musical spectrum. It was invented by and named for Antoine-Joseph (Adolphe) Sax. He was an expert instrument maker and talented musician. The saxophone was patented on March 20, 1846. Although the saxophone is made out of metal it is a woodwind instrument because it uses a reed which vibrates to produce a tone. What an Alto Saxophone sounds like.

Oboe

A woodwind instrument played with a double reed. The most common oboe plays in the treble or soprano range. Oboes are usually made of wood, but there are also oboes made of synthetic materials. What an oboe sounds like. 

Bassoon

A large woodwind instrument of low range, with a doubled tube and a curved metal crook to which a double reed is attached. What a bassoon sounds like.
